Even though Hayley Orrantia plays the older sister she is actually four months younger than Troy Gentile who plays her younger brother.

During the first season, which shows the character of Adam being bullied on the school bus by J.C. Spink, the real-life Spink plays the school bus driver.

Most, if not all, the posters in Adam's room were posters that the real Adam Goldberg had in his childhood bedroom.

Although the show is largely based on Adam Goldberg's family, the character Erica isn't actually real. The real Goldbergs had three sons: Eric, Barry and Adam; ABC executives told the creators to have one of the siblings to be a girl because the show would be funnier.
