Trivia
TV series producer, Yasuyuki Ueda, said that 'Serial Experiments: Lain' had to take the Japanese audience to see how American culture has invaded and modified Japanese customs. Unfortunately, neither the Japanese nor the American audience could see this "war of ideas".
[Show] creators conceived the project transversely so that there was both the TV series as a video game and a manga. In fact, the video game was produced in the same time as TV series.
One of the creators of the series, Chiaki J. Konaka said that to create 'Serial Experiments: Lain' decided to take inspiration from Jean-Luc Godard's films, one of the symbols of the Nouvelle Vague, as well as horror classics as' The Exorcist' or 'House of Dark Shadows' by Dan Curtis. They also took as a reference 'Alice in Wonderland' by Lewis Carroll, calling one of the main characters as Alice.
