Sarah Hyland has had two of her boyfriends appear on the show, and they both have played Alex's (Ariel Winter) love interest. Hyland's boyfriend at the time, Matt Prokop appeared in the third season and her current boyfriend, Dominic Sherwood appears in the seventh season.

All the actors made a pact since season 1 to always submit themselves to the awards as Supporting actor/actress, never Leading.

Rob Huebel turned down the role of Phil Dunphy and in later interviews expressed regret over this decision. He would later go on to appear as a nemesis of Phil.
