Aziz needed to find 2 Indian people to play his parents in the show, but was not finding anyone that was exactly what he wanted, so he just used his real parents who are not actors.

Like his character, Aziz also interned for Nickelodeon in his early 20s.

Ansari's brother, Aniz, was a staff writer on the series.
