'The Lord of the Rings' cinematographic saga is a fantasy adventure film series directed by Neo Zealand-born director Peter Jackson. They're based on 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy written by English Author J.R.R. Tolkien in which a fellowship formed by four hobbits, two men, an elf, a dwarf and a wizard go on a quest to Mordor to destroy the One Ring and defeat the Dark Lord Sauron once and for all and set the Middle-Earth free from darkness.
This film series includes 'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring' premiered in 2001, 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers' premiered in 2002 and 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' premiered in 2003. This trilogy won seventeen Academy Awards of thirty nominations. 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' received eleven Academy Awards, including Best Director and Best Movie, tying with James Cameron's 'Titanic' and William Wyler's 'Ben-Hur' on the most Academy Awards received for a film.
This trilogy became a success with almost 3 billion dollars grossing worldwide.
