'The Expwndables' saga was created by David Callaham and Sylvester Stallone as a way for big names in the action cinema to come together in the same movie and relaunch their careers. The first installment opened in cinemas in 2010 and had Sylvester Stallone as director and the main star. He was joined by famous actors like Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews or Mickey Rourke. It didn't go bad at the box office. It made 274,5 million dollars worldwide with a budget of 80 million dollars. Its sequel opened in 2012, and a third installment came out in 2014. 'The Expendables 2' was the most successful movie of the franchise with 305,4 million dollars worldwide, and 'The Expendables 3' was the least successful one, with 206,2 millon dollars worldwide. Despite a notorious weathering of the series, Sylvester Stallones is already preparing a fourth movie. 'The Expendables' franchise has had big names in its cast, like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Jean Claude Van Damme or Chuck Norris.
