Saga Rocky
In 1976 the actor Sylvester Stallone were the star in a film written by himself, and directed by John G. Avildsen that would kick off to a successful series. Rocky Balboa, a small-time boxer who dreams of playing in another league, get his big break when the heavyweight Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) visit Philadelphia with the intention of fighting an opponent willing to become "someone" in the boxing world. This was the plot of 'Rocky', a film that grossed 100 million in US only while gaining a handful of fans who were eager to repeat with 'Rocky II'.
The second part, written and directed by Stallone, focused on Rocky's family issues and the revenge Apollo was seeking, earned slightly less than the original, something that did not stop Stallone who continued his adventure with Rocky.
In 'Rocky III', a rich and world champion Rocky, is depressed to the point of considering retirement. Apollo helps him regain his form, and does an incredible job because Rocky manages to keep fighting for two more films.
'Rocky IV' sees the return of Creed on the ring, as the former champ faces Russian tank Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren). The fights ends on a fatal injury that kills Creed. What forces Rocky to fight for vengeance on an epic U.S vs U.S.S.R. fight. And in 'Rocky V', Balboa has to fight former protegé turned traitor Tommy Gunn. Thirty years after this latest installment Stallone returns with 'Rocky Balboa', a film that rescues the champion of retirement for one last fight.
'Creed' is a spin-off that works as a reboot for the saga and that, inside the story of the saga, is a sequel. The film stars Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed, the illegitimate son of Apollo who will look for Rocky in need of a trainer and the father figure he never had.
