'Venom' continues to reap in big box-office statistics. Despite having premiered with a very poor reception from critics, the film has reached records of more than $210 million in the US and more than $770 million on a global level, making it undoubtedly one of the greatest releases in superhero cinema of 2018.

After having been released in China, where the film managed to make more than $204 million in profits, 'Venom' currently accumulates a total of $779.5 million, thus overtaking the statistics for other successful superhero films such as the first 'Guardians of the Galaxy' ($773.3 million) or 'Deadpool 2' ($734.1 million).

In addition, this film starring Tom Hardy will manage in the next few days to overtake other films such as 'Deadpool' ($783.1 million) and even 'Spider-Man 2' ($783.8 million). However, taking into account that China was the last big market in which 'Venom' was pending release, the film will most likely not manage to reach the $1000 million mark, and not reach heights of releases such as 'Iron Man 3' or 'The Avengers'.

A sequel?

The statistics automatically lead us to expect a sequel, although for the moment Sony Pictures has not carried out any official statement. Ruben Fleischer, the film's director, already hinted at his own anticipation for a continuation of the 'Venom' story, referencing a small details in the post credits scene:

"We'd like to think that this movie will expand to other movies and Carnage is, I think, the most beloved of the Venom adversaries, with the exception of probably Spider-Man. [...] But the intention or the ambition was to show that there are legs for the franchise in that a fan favorite let alone played by Woody Harrelson would be something we could look forward to in the future."
