It's not been long since Selma Blair started the rumour mill about a possible 'The Sweetest Thing' sequel. The actress as well as the creators all seem pretty happy to go ahead with a sequel. But what do her former co-stars, Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate think about reprising their roles as the wild Christina Walters and Courtney Rockliffe?
Blair recently spoke to Variety: "I had lunch with Cameron the other day. We were reminiscing about the film. I would have liked to do a sequel, but Cameron's retired from acting. She's like, «I'm done»". Following her comments, news of Diaz' retirement spread like wildfire, so much so that Blair was forced to clarify the issue.
For their part, Variety took to speaking to the director (Roger Kumble) and screenplay writer (Nancy Pimental) who both worked on 'The Sweetest Thing'. "No discussions about a sequel, but I dance around with ideas in my head about doing it all the time. We seem to have a consistent and loyal following that I am grateful for", mentioned Pimental.
Kumble added, "Nothing would make me happier than to work with all those incredibly talented people".
A censored rom-com
Although it has a pretty simple storyline, 'The Sweetest Thing' is full of funny scenes; one of our favourites is when the three sing about the men they believe to be well endowed. That scene was censured in the States back in its day.
Despite the censuring, that didn't stop the production from raking in an impressive $25 million. The scene wasn't censured here in Europe and the film earned $68 million, almost tripling the US takings.
