According to the script writers, Carlos Montero and Dario Madrona, ideas for a second season have been bubbling ever since they began writing the script for the first, and fans can rejoice as they even suggested that they could see the series continuing for a third or fourth season.
The first season of 'Elite' was a thrilling drama, following the story of a murder in a private school, Las Encinas, set in Spain. The second season, therefore, has the potential to become even darker and more ominous in its storyline, and Montero admitted "it is true that with our plots, dramatically we keep looking for that darkness". However, he also reassured the fans that he wanted to balance this darkness out with more scenes of light-hearted extravagance and carousels: "we do not want to forget that these are kids, it's a school." He also added that this season was going to be even more profligate than the first: "it is going to be more wild, more promiscuous, and more everything."
So what can we expect to see in this new season? Fans of the #Omander ship can rejoice as the writers have promised to develop this romance more in the season to come. Montero said that the fans can relax as the writers have no plans for disaster for the couple, although Madrona was quick to add that all would not be plain sailing in love.
The main thing that Madrona and Montero highlighted about their plans for season 2 was their desire to explore the existing characters in more depth. They stated that one of the biggest ideas is to focus on Nadia's (Mina El Hammani) own journey of self discovery and the theme of feminism, which was beginning to come to light at the end of the last season. In addition, another fan-favourite, Danna Paola's infamous character, will similarly be given more attention in this upcoming season. "There was a lot more to her", Montera admitted, "but some scenes needed to be cut to reach the time limit of different episodes". He added that if there was any character whom he was particularly to explore in greater detail, it was her. It will be very interesting to see more sides to the self-confident Lucrecia with her cutting tongue...
Out with the old?
When questioned about whether they planned to explore some of the most topical and controversial themes of the first season in more depth the second time around, for example, the matter of Marina's HIV, Madrona replied that, "we work season by season [...] we always start from the point of view of the characters. We don't only think about what theme we want to address, but also, is this going to be interesting for this character? Will it work?" It is clear that they won't be dragging anything out for the sake of it, but Madrona assured us that new, equally interesting matters are going to be addressed in the season to come.
The two writers also confessed that they would not be following in the footsteps of '13 Reasons Why' and finding a way to bring Marina (María Pedraza) back for season 2, saying that they didn't see it working, "the dead are dead". However, they confirmed that there character would still remain extremely relevant to the series as of course now the remaining characters are having to deal with their own grief and guilt after her death.
In one word, the writers described the new season as "intense"... we can only imagine what more excitement is to come. Filming for the second season will begin early 2019 and it will be released later that year.
