The spotlight is difficult to control; one day you are at the top of the pyramid and the next you are trying to find your place at the bottom and trying to climb back up. After the first high success of Alicia Silverstone in 'Clueless' the actress was rushed to the Olympus of Hollywood. She signed a 10 million dollar contract with Sony, but not all went as planned...
Born in San Francisco, California, on 4th October 1976, she was the daughter of a flight attendant and an estate agent. Silverstone was certain that she wanted to dedicate her life to the spectacular world of film. At the age of six she began her journey into modeling, in small fashion companies, and she continued with various television adverts. In 1988 her first chance came to her, thanks to the series 'The Wonder Years'. She also had a role in 'The Crush' and various other TV movies.
'Clueless' was her first big break, but it did not last long. Her participation in 'Batman and Robin', as Batgirl, was a huge bump in the road, not only due to unfair problems with production, but also due to reasons outside of the world of cinema. Since then the actress has been participating in various different projects, but nothing as iconic as her first film seemed to promise. Her step away from the spotlight was partially intentional; in an interview she has explained that she hated the feeling of being in a "race" and that fame for her was not enjoyable, stating that she acted for love of acting, and not for the celebrity status.
Her Life Off Screen
Putting the actress' on screen life aside, Alicia has participated in various theatre productions and has also created her own eco-friendly company, which is involved with everything from solar panels to organic products.
