Now that the production of 'The Matrix 4' is well and truly underway, fans of the iconic science fiction saga have started to theorise about just how the film will reintroduce the characters of Neo and Trinity in what is their first reunion in 17 years. Thanks to the well of information that is Twitter, an exciting glimpse from the San Francisco set dropped of Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss performing what appears to be one of the epic stunts set to feature in the upcoming instalment of the saga.

In the short clip, Trinity is at the helm of a motorcycle whilst Neo sits behind her as passenger. The intricate set system, in which the motorcycle is connected to a low trailer installed to give the cameras better access, shows an action scene being filmed with the meticulous detail that is synonymous with a saga as far-reaching and successful as that of 'The Matrix'.

Though 'The Matrix 4' will see Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss stepping back into their roles from previous instalments, Comicbook reminds us that the film is allegedly set to centre around a new character played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, most likely recognised by audiences for his roles in 'Us' and 'Aquaman'. Despite his excitement about the role, Abdul-Mateen is keeping quiet about any details that could give away the plot: "I would love to talk about 'The Matrix'! I'm very excited to do it...It's a very exciting relevant script that I'm honored to be a part of".

Back in the Director's Seat: Lana Wachowski

In addition to the homecoming performances of Reeves and Moss, 'The Matrix 4' will also see the return of Lana Wachowski as director. Wachowski was also responsible for the direction of the original trilogy alongside her sister, Lilly, and is excited to explore the enduring relevance of the saga to today's generation. "Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now", says Wachowski. "I'm very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends".

Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as Neo and Trinity in 'The Matrix'

The production company behind this upcoming instalment, Warner Bros. Pictures, is also enthusiastic about the director's return to the world first introduced in the 1999 film 'The Matrix'. "Lana is a true visionary - a single and original creative filmmaker", says chairman Toby Emmerich. "We are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter".

'The Matrix 4' is currently set to arrive in theaters on the 21st March 2021, the same day that the fourth instalment in another of Keanu Reeves's franchises, 'John Wick: Chapter 4', hits UK cinemas. Perhaps this has something to do with the Wick-esque look sported by Reeves in the short stunt clip , though we'll have to wait until 2021 to step back into The Matrix and find our long-awaited answers.
