Have you felt the force recently? Did you wake up to that famous galactic soundtrack? It's probably because the most recent 'The Last Jedi' trailer just dropped. The latest film in one of Disney's most successful franchises hits UK cinemas on 15th December 2017. You can see the trailer here...
Spoilers ahead!!!
(The trailer for Episode VIII gives a lot away, so you best not watch if you don't want to know too much!)
Stateside, Lucasfilm took advantage of the half-time break during the American football match between the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears, and premiered the trailer at 3am British time. The decision to release the trailer at such a time in the US has clearly paid off because ticket sales for the upcoming film are already soaring. It's the same strategy Disney used for 'The Force Awakens', when they also aired the trailer during a sports event broadcast. The response to that film was just as promising, with pre-sale tickets reaching 50 million dollars. So, before you get too caught up in a lightsaber fight, you best get your ticket before they sell out!
As director and screenplay writer, Rian Johnson warned us beforehand, the trailer is full of spoilers. To begin with, we already know how Luke reacts when Rey gives him his own lightsaber - he's quite scared. "I've seen this rare strength only once before. It didn't scare me enough then; it does now". So what more can Rey do? She has no one else to turn to, but Kylo Ren, with who she shares her abilities. The problem being when the character killed his own father and is very much on the Dark Side.
Now, if that hasn't left you glued to your seat, the look of grief on Princess Leia's (Carrie Fisher) face, as she watches her son continue what he began the day Han Solo died, will do the trick. Just from the trailer, it's obvious the upcoming film, has a much darker feel to it than Episode VII.
What can we expect from 'The Last Jedi'?
Lasting 150 minutes, Episode VIII is set to be the longest in the saga, overtaking 'Attack of the Clones' which lasted only 142 minutes. Episode VII left many unanswered questions, which we'd like to see addressed in the next instalment. Domhnall Gleeson, who plays General Hux in the saga, assured us that this film is very different to those before it.
"When I read it I needed to talk to him (Johnson), and I think that's always a good sign. I was like, «Wow there's some stuff there which is kind of - not scary but different to what I expected», and that's a really, really nice thing. I think that's a really positive thing, I think that's important for those films that we don't repeat ourselves", mentioned Gleeson. Director Rian Johnson is said to have been, "so confident, not in a brash way but he knew the film he wanted to make".
Gleeson cannot wait to see the whole film; between the actor's comments and the new trailer, neither can we!!
