We've known for quite some time now that Netflix show, 'The Crown' was to undergo a huge shake up with regard to cast, and it had long been announced that Olivia Colman would be taking up the role of Queen Elizabeth II, following on from Claire Foy. What remained unknown however, was who'd be joining the actress to portray the Duke of Edinburgh. Until now, that role had been taken by Matt Smith.
As 'The Crown' undergoes a significant time jump, actor, Tobias Menzies will be taking over from the former 'Doctor Who' star. The casting is fitting, not only because the actor himself thinks he doesn't "have a very modern face", but also because he's "drawn to" historic material.
'The Crown' has been in the news recently following the leak that Matt Smith was paid significantly more than Claire Foy, despite the show being based upon the latter's character. The producers behind the show have since spoken up to rectify the issue, stating, "going forward, no one gets paid more than the Queen". Here's to hoping news of the latest casting overshadows the controversy.
'The Crown'
Olivia Colman and Menzies, who's known for his roles as Edmure Tully in 'Game of Thrones' and Brutus in 'Rome' will be joined by Helena Bonham Carter in the role of Princess Margaret.
