In 2001 Eoin Colfer's fantasy sci-fi novel, 'Artemis Fowl' was first released onto bookshelves, before becoming one of the most popular teen fictions of the time and a saga of 8 novels in total. Now, 'Artemis Fowl' is making the leap to the big screen in Disney's latest upcoming project, and here you have the first teaser trailer.
Kenneth Branagh ('Murder on the Orient Express') is in charge of directing the film, which is based in the first novel in the saga, and which has been adapted for the screen by Conor McPherson. In the trailer we hear the voiceover of Judi Dench, who plays the role of Commander Root, the leader of LEPrecon, the fairy police.
Artemis Fowl is a young boy of 12 years old with an incredible mind, but far from using it for good, he maintains the criminal legacy of his family, stealing from both humans and from magical beings, with the help of his best friend and employee, Butler. Ferdia Shaw will star as the young criminal mastermind, while Nonso Anozie plays the role of the Butler. The cast is complete with Lara McDonnell as Holly Short, an elf who is imprisoned by Artemis for bailout money, Josh Gad as Mulch Diggums, a kleptomaniac dwarf, Tamara Smart as Julieta, Butler's niece, and Miranda Raison as Artemis' mother.
Disney Continues to Back Fantasy
'Artemis Fowl' will arrive in cinemas on 30th August 2019 and it seems to be a new attempt by Disney to create a franchise in the world of fantasy. After failing to take off with 'The Chronicles of Narnia', and with titles such as 'Tomorrowland' or 'A Wrinkle in Time' as black spot on the lucrative years for the Hollywood giant (thanks to the animation and acquisition of new studios), it seems that they are not going to stop trying to break ground in this field. Are you on board with this new adventure?
