It always saddens us when symbolic and much loved TV series air their finales, but as the saying goes: all good things must come to an end. Such is the case with 'Sex and the City' which, after six seasons and two films, is about to call it quits, much to the annoyance of fans of the saga who, up until last week, were eagerly anticipating a third film. In an interview with ExtraTV, Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie), crushed our dreams with the announcement that the third installment was no more.
"It's over... we're not doing it", mentioned SJP, despite being on-board for another sequel along with co-stars, Cynthia Nixon (Miranda), and Kristin Davis (Charlotte). It was Kim Cattrall, who plays Samantha in the show, who showed no interest of returning to the series for one last time.
Ryan Murphy, the creative mind behind 'American Horror Story', has voiced his opinion on the whole debacle by stating that Samantha should simply be recast. "Why don't they just recast Samantha? I don't get it", he mentioned to Vulture. "I love Sarah Jessica Parker, I've worked with her. I think she's amazing ... She's a great producer and has a great business acumen." Murphy went on to say, had he created the series, he wouldn't have hesitated in continuing with the project, especially if 95% of the team were all for it. "I don't blame Kim Cattrall though", he added.
Bad blood between the cast members
It's not breaking news that the air between SJP and Kim Cattrall is often in need of clearing. Cattrall has also voiced her annoyance over the huge pay gap between SJP and the remaining 3 protagonists, including herself, dubbing it unfair. It has also been brought to light that filming for the second film was almost impossible given than SJP and Cattrall couldn't stand the see one another.
According to the Daily Mail, there will be no third film because Cattrall was against the idea from its conception.
Ryan Murphy also offered up an alternative solution, if recasting was not an option: "Just do one where Samantha is dead." We'll have to wait and see whether the 'Sex and the City' team take Murphy's suggestions seriously or not.
