It's only been a few months since it was announced that Renée Zellweger would be playing Judy Garland in the upcoming biopic titled 'Judy', and now we're pleased to present the first image of the actress in character.
The new film, backed by Pathé, BBC Films and Ingenious Media will focus on the singing career of the iconic actress during her last performances in London. The storyline will kick off in 1968, just a few decades after the actress portrayed Dorothy in 'The Wizard of Oz'. 'Judy' will dig deep into Garland's relationships with other musicians and her fans at the same time she entered into a relationship with Mickey Deans, who would go on to become her fifth husband.
However, despite her successful career, as the film will portray, the actress soon began to grow tired and grieved for her lack of a childhood, due to her work in Hollywood. Garland also expressed a desire to return home with her children. In the film, we'll get to hear some of the singer/actress' greatest hits like that of 'Over the Rainbow'.
The various musical scenes involved in the role should prove to be no challenge for Zellweger who appeared in the 2002 musical, 'Chicago'. Joining the actress will be Jessie Buckley, Rufus Sewell, Finn Wittrock and Michael Gambon.
A return from exile
The actress, best known for her role as Bridget Jones in the eponymous saga, had been pretty much out of the spotlight since 2010's 'My Own Love Song'. So, as you can imagine, it came as a huge surprise when it was announced that she'd would be returning for a third instalment to 'Bridget Jones' back in 2016 alongside Colin Firth, who'd reprise his role as Mark Darcy. Just a month after its release, Zellweger also appeared in 'The Whole Truth' starring Keanu Reeves. Since then, the actress had worked on three films, 'Judy' included. The production in question is still without an official release date.
