If there is one thing missing from the extensive career of Penelope Cruz, it is an animation film. However, this had been about to change; the Oscar-winning actress revealed in an interview that she had been hoping to appear in the sequel to 'Frozen', the long awaited Disney film which is coming to cinemas at the end of 2019. Although, despite the actress' desire to join the Disney family, it seems that there was no place for her in the cast.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, in which the actress and Javier Bardem were promoting their latest film, 'Loving Pablo', which has just premiered in the United States, Penelope Cruz not only spoke about what it meant to her to be able to be a part of a film about Pablo Escobar, but also about her desire to participate in 'Frozen 2', the next step in Ana and Elsa's beloved adventures.
"I haven't done a lot of films that are for children... but I am looking. I hope I can do some animation work, I would love to. I tried to get into 'Frozen 2', that was the one, but... no way," the actress confessed, responding to the question as to whether her children made her want to be involved in more family friendly films. Both actors spoke about the importance of sharing their values through their projects, in reference to their latest works together, 'Loving Pablo', directed by Fernando Leon de Aranoa, which they were promoting, and 'Everybody Knows', directed by Iranian Asghar Farhadi.
Morals through Film
Bardem stated, "I think its about really believing in what you're doing, and knowing, or feeling at least, that what you're doing is going to have some impact on someone. You know that you want to change the world, because that is what any art discipline should do". He also spoke about the importance of cinema to reflect on society, saying, "You want to put a mirror as an actor, to help to see ourselves in it, for better or worse." Bardem said that for his children he only wanted them to be "nice, honest, caring, loving people." Although he claimed that "that's not easy" because the "world is a very complex place to be".
Cruz, on the other hand, wanted to highlight the importance of her family, saying, "my parents taught us great values... they were very hard workers, they didn't take anything for granted. They really valued family and family has always been a priority. That's how I was raised, what I have always seen. I don't know any other way. Family comes first and then everything else."
The sequel to 'Frozen' is, until further notice, the next off Disney's projects relating to their classic canonical characters. It will be directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, and in August it was also revealed that Allison Schroeder, nominated for an Oscar due to her script for 'Hidden Figures' and writer of the recent 'Christopher Robin', was set to going Lee in writing the script. Lee has assumed the role of creative director at Walt Disney Animation Studios, releasing John Lasseter.
