Without doubt, the recent feminist movement sweeping through Hollywood took this year's Oscars ceremony by a storm. Best actress award winner, Frances McDormand empowered many with her acceptance speech, which, for many, quickly became the most memorable moment of the night. As the night came to a close and the cameras stopped rolling, however, there was one show of solidarity that we weren't privy to, until now, that is.
Thanks to the marvellous invention that is the smart phone, we're able to bring to you a particularly precious moment: the best actress nominees embracing one another. Saoirse Ronan, Sally Hawkins, Margot Robbie and Meryl Streep all came together in a group hug that's sure to go down in Oscar history.

Best actor nominee Timothée Chalamet also managed to capture the hug in a clip he later uploaded onto his Instagram story with the caption: "legendz".

The fight for equality
Frances McDormand isn't the first to use her acceptance speech to advocate gender equality in the film industry. Back in 2015, the best actress Oscar winner, Patricia Arquette, who won for her work on 'Boyhood' spoke about equal pay. Arquette's speech kicked off one of the internet's most popular memes, despite not making nearly as much of an impact as the actress might have liked. Here's to hoping McDormand's speech goes a little further than that of Arquette.
