That's right, next month, on February 26th, it will be time for the Oscars, the most prestigious awards in cinema! But before we get the pleasure of watching nervous celebrities compete against each other, we have to check out the nominations, to see who has a chance of winning that illustrious Golden Statue!
The President of the Academy, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, is responsible for releasing the list of nominations, along with Jennifer Hudson, Brie Larson, Emmanuel Lubezki, Jason Reitman and Ken Watanabe. This year, the announcement of the nominees has a so-called 'authenticity' to it, as instead of the typical public announcement of the nominees, it will be done online.
This year, the augurs have told me all the signs point to 'La La Land' sweeping through the Oscars, especially after how well it did at the Golden Globes, winning every category it was in which it was nominated. However, 'Moonlight' is a serious contender, chiefly after being awarded Best Drama Film by the Foreign Press Association. Other contenders include, 'Manchester by the Sea', 'Nocturnal Animals', 'Loving', 'Hidden Figures', and 'Arrival'.
Will one film make a clean sweep with a majority of awards? Or will it be more like 2016, with lots of winners spread around the board? To find the answer, we will have to wait until February 26th, where Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the ceremony in the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles!
