At the minute, the next installment to the beloved James Bond saga, 'Bond 25', is somewhat in the air. The likes of Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox and Annapurna are all battling it out in a mission to win the distribution rights to the 25th installment of the adventures of 007. No director has been assigned to the film as of yet and despite Eon Productions saying that Daniel Craig will continue his role as the British spy, it is not written in stone just yet. If that doesn't go to plan, there is one man who would love to take on the role. Step up, Orlando Bloom.
The Kent born actor recently spoke to BBC News and expressed his love for the films. "I grew up loving those films" Bloom said enthusiastically. "It's the franchise that is part of the fabric of our society and it's something that people really relate to and laugh and enjoy". Speaking about his fondness of past Bond actors such as Sean Connery and Roger Moore, Bloom also speaks highly of the current Bond, Daniel Craig, saying how he has been a very "muscular and dynamic" type of Bond.
So, what if he himself had the chance to be Bond? When asked about it, Bloom said he would play a "very English" version of the spy "but with that sort of twinkle with the muscular dynamic". The actor continued by saying: "Who know's? They could do a woman in the world we live in today. But I do love that world and who doesn't, you know?".
As can be seen in the photo below, Bloom's face has been photoshopped onto the famous Bond tuxedo with gun in hand and it is safe to say he does pull it off. However, thats the easiest bit. To get the part he would have to impress and gain the approval of producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. On top of that, there is some strong competition for the next person to succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond. Orlando Bloom will have to compete with the likes of Tom Hughes, Tom Hiddleston, Jamie Bell and Idris Elba.
The next director?
After Sam Mendes confirmed he will not be directing 'Bond 25', a number of names are now being flown about with regards to who will be directing the next film. According to IndieWire, the director of 'Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool', the Scotsman Paul McGuigan, has impressed the producers at Eon Productions so much that even his name is being considered for the next installment of 007. The director of previous productions such as 'Wicker Park', 'Lucky Number Slevin' and the series 'Luke Cage'. With his own unique style there is no reason not to put McGuigan in the mix for the directing role.
