Stephen Spielberg has an eventful 2018 in store for us. At the beginning of the year we'll get to see heavyweights Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in 'The Post', and then a few months later, 'Ready Player One' will have its own premiere. The production company behind the latter film have recently released another trailer.
'Ready Player One', based on the book by Ernest Cline, will focus on Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan), an orphan who spends his days in the OASIS - a virtual universe. The film will see Watts compete against other users to find a virtual easter egg, left by the OASIS creator, that will give the winner total control over the virtual universe.
Aside from the prize, the new trailer is full of easter egg appearances from characters from popular culture like Chucky and Lara Croft. You can see the trailer here, but be careful, because if you blink, you might just miss the surprise appearances!
The trailer
The trailer gives us a bit more detail about the OASIS creator, James Hallyday, played by Mark Rylance. Following his death, in a post-humous video, the character reveals how he's left his fortune to the first person who manages to find the easter egg he's hidden in the OASIS. That means anyone is eligible for Hallyday's fortune of half a trillion dollars and total control of OASIS, be it Wade Watts or anyone else!
'Ready Player One' will release in cinemas on 30th March 2018, and with its premiere, commences the competition. May the best player win!
