Count Olaf returns to our screens, but this time it comes in the form of a Netflix series. 'A Series of Unfortunate Events', the saga created by Lemony Snicket, arrived to Netflix January 2017 and Neil Patrick Harris, who plays the main character in the story, will have to figure out how to gain the fortune left behind by the Bauedelaire family to their children, who are now orphans looking for a home to live.
Count Olaf is a vile and selfish man, who pretends to show interest in the small creatures and takes them into his own care in order to try and get his hands on the fortune. However, it is not that easy as the children are aware that he is a slimy character and they will do whatever possible to stop Olaf's evil and cunnning plans.
One of the great skills of this devious villain is his ability to disguise himself as other people and create false identities, with the ultimate aim of getting closer to the children without seeming suspicious around other adults. However, the children are much more sceptical about their guardians plans than the other people around them.
Far more than Count Olaf
Neil Patrick Harris has had the pleasure of playing a wide range of characters in both cinema and television. However, if we were to remember him for one role, it would be as Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother. If you're a fan of the actor and feel at a loose end after watching A Series of Unfortunate Events, then his legendary role as Barney in 'How I Met Your Mother' is certainly worth a watch and is also available of Netflix. He also appears in films that may appeal to the younger audience in the form of Patrick Winslow in 'The Smurfs' and 'The Smurfs 2'.
The wide range of disguises that Neil Patrick Harris uses throughout the eight episodes of 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' will create defining and entertaining moments in the series. Below are some of his sneaky sides in the series as he attempts to get his hands on that huge fortune.
1 Count Olaf
Neil Patrick Harris plays the antagonist of the story written by Lemony Snicket. Count Olaf is a cruel, deceiving and dirty man who will do whatever it takes to make the Baudelaire fortune his own.
2 Yessica Haircut
Olaf disguises himself as 'Yessica Haircut' and is an invention of the series itself. It essentially explains how the children manage to find themselves in the care of Count Olaf as he is the closest relative to them in a geographical context.
3 Stephano
Stephano is another clever disguise that Count Olaf uses. He cunningly dresses up and pretends to be Dr. Montgomery's assistant herpetologist with a long grey beard, with big glasses and no eyebrows.
4 Captain Julio Sham
Captain Sham, another creepy cover up from Count Olaf, is in the form of a sailor fitted with his own eye patch and wooden leg which he uses to cover up his tattoo.
5 Shirley T. Sinoit-Pécer
With this disguise, Count Olaf changes sexes by pretending to act as Dr. Orwell's receptionist. T.Sinolt-Pécer is receptionist backwards. Clever.
6 Olaf the stage actor
Count Olaf, in his real life is a stage actor, and is capable of disguising himself and acting as a whole range of different characters. Although, his talent is questionable...
