Prepare the feather boas, the wigs, the glitter, and your dancing shoes because 'Moulin Rouge! The Musical' has now announced a release date on Broadway. The theatrical adaptation of the most revolutionary musical of the 21st Century will be coming to the Hirschfeld theatre in New York on the 25th July 2019. The prerelease date has also been announced and will commence a month before, from the 28th June, according to reports from Entertainment Weekly.
Carmen Pavlovic, the producer of the musical, made the announcement saying, "We are thrilled to be bringing Moulin Rouge! The Musical to Broadway. We are especially delighted that the show is going to the Hirschfeld, the perfect theater for this production with its lavish architecture and rich history of landmark Broadway shows."
The actors and actresses who will be bringing the characters from Baz Luhrman's wild story have also been announced. Karen Olivo will be replacing Nicole Kidman and stepping into the shoes of Satine, a role which almost won Kidman her first Oscar. Aaron Tevit, who we already know thanks to his participation in Tom Hooper's film of 'Les Miserables' and for his role as Danny Zuko in 'Grease Live!', will be playing the role of Christian, the bohemian script writer played by Ewan McGregor in the 2001 film.
Tony Dany Burstein ('Blackhat') will be Harold Zidler, the unforgettable owner of the Moulin Rouge, and Tam Mutu ('Sherlock') will play the infamous Duke, while Sahr Ngaujah will play Toulouse, Christian's loyal companion.
If you are already booking flights so as not to miss out on this legendary musical event, don't wait to get yourself tickets in the presale which starts on November 21st, before officially becoming available on December 3rd. We now just have to wait to see whether it someday becomes a reality in UK theaters or the West End. And that is the greatest thing that can happen to you, not to love and to have it reciprocated, but to get tickets to the most anticipated musical in recent years.
An Unforgettable Musical
In the first moments of its release in 2001, 'Moulin Rouge' instantly became a cult classic. Luhrman's revolutionary proposition won over a large proportion of the audience who had literally never seen anything so radical in the cinema, and while this radicalism did not quite make the mark with the other half, everyone could enjoy the love story between Satine and Christian.
$179.2 million in profits, eight Oscar nominations, including Best Film and Best Actress, and considered by the BBC as one of the best films of the 21st Century are only a few of the successes that have come to 'Moulin Rouge', a film that, without a doubt, must be watched at least once in a lifetime, although we must warn you that it will stay with you forever.
