Colin Trevorrow directs this taster of what we can expect to see in Jurassic World 3, a short film titled 'Battle at Big Rock', that has revolutionised the saga in little more than eight minutes thanks to dinosaurs more threatening than ever; dinosaurs that roam free as they please.
The short film, written by Treverrow himself along with Emily Carmichael, is set a year after 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom', in Big Rock National Park, a natural environment in which the dinosaurs walk about calmly looking to wolf down any human being they come across. Life is unpredictable with these jurassic creatures living outside a man-made environment for the first time, an environment which causes terrifying encounters for anyone who gets in their way. Families fight for mere survival in this short film.
But the detail that forever changes this saga, started in the 1990s by Steven Spielberg, isn't the terrifying tone born from humans seeming to finally realise that they cannot contain these creatures, but a "natural miracle" never seen before in this universe. In the short film, a radio presenter is heard stating that reports have arrived of the first dinosaur born in American territory, from which one can deduce that these creatures are reproducing without the aid of the ambitious Dr. Henry Wu. It's a negligible detail that could mean a lot of things, but it has not gone unnoticed by some fans who are especially enthusiastic about the credit of the short film.
All the meat on the BBQ
When we realised that in 'Jurassic World 3' the dinosaurs were going to interfere with the day to day life of humans, we never imagined the extent to which Trevorrow would take the plunge with this idea, so the end of 'Battle at Big Rock' have fans of the franchise going crazy for what is to come. Alternating with the names of the crew that made this short film in the credits are home videos of encounters with these creatures. One dinosaur in the middle of an airport; another scoffing down a dove just released by newlyweds in the middle of their wedding ceremony...It becomes ever more serious as humanity realises what it stands to lose. How will this evolutionary chaos be resolved? We'll find out in 2021.
