We still have two years left until we'll be able to watch the sixth film in the 'Jurassic Park' saga, but the wait will be much more bearable now knowing that actors from the original cast, Laura Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum, will return for 'Jurassic World 3'.
Dern herself announced the news during a showing of 'Jurassic World' in Los Angeles alongside Colin Trevorrow, scriptwriter of the first three instalments of 'Jurassic World' and director of the first film of the new trilogy who will be returning for the next third (the second film, 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom', was directed by J.A. Bayona). The actress and director announced before the public that the original cast will return "for mains roles, not cameos".
They also took to social media to share the announcement. The film's Instagram account made the return of the three iconic characters to saga public with a photo and a caption reading: "They're back. Welcome to Jurassic World Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler and Ian Malcolm". A story published by the same account showed Laura Dern delighted by the news: "Hi everyone! I'm really excited. I guess that you all already know that I'm going to return and reunite with everyone for 'Jurassic World 3'. I'll see you in 2021".
In 2021, with the premiere of the film, we'll be able to see the three actors reunited once more for the first time in the saga since 'Jurassic Park' in 1993, when the doctors Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) were sent to check the park's security. After this first instalment, Goldblum appeared in the second film of the original trilogy, 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park', and had a small cameo in 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom', whilst Neill and Dern appeared in 'Jurassic Park III' in 2001, but the three actors had never, until now, returned all at once.
A tribute to the saga
'Jurassic Park' remains one of the world's best-loved sagas, and this sixth instalment promises to be a tribute to all of the films and the story started in 1993 by Steven Spielberg. According to Trevorrow himself, the man charged with directing and writing 'Jurassic World 3', it will be "a celebration of everything that has existed in the franchise up until now", and the involvement of the original cast seems to confirm it. Regarding what we'll see in the film, it seems that the stakes will be higher than ever: Chris Pratt (who will continue to star in the saga alongside Bryce Dallas Howard) has promised that it will be "pretty epic" and will not disappoint. Furthermore, this month we have already been able to watch the new short film directed by Trevorrow, 'Jurassic World: Battle at Big Rock', set a year after 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom', that has revolutionised the saga and shown us dinosaurs as we've never seen them before. To find out all of the details about this new instalment we'll have to wait until June 2021, when the film is expected to premiere.
