Jack Black is known for making an entire generation laugh with the film that shot him to international stardom back in 2003, 'School of Rock'. This time around, however, his announcement of his imminent retirement from acting seems to suggest that his next big achievement will be making the entirety of that very same generation burst into tears.

In an interview with Balance, the Californian actor declared that 'Jumanji: The Next Level' may well be his last film: "I've been saying for a long time that this is the last movie. We'll see. I can't really say what my next thing is because it's too early; it's a jinxer. I've got a couple of tricks up my sleeve. But not too many. I'm looking to wrap it up pretty soon. Ride off into the sunset," says the actor, before going on to explain that an important reason behind this decision is the time that his career forces him to spend away from his wife and children. "I don't like going away from Tanya and the boys. I spend too much time away from home".

Despite this decision, Black wouldn't rule out joining the cast of the next Quentin Tarantino film if the director were to offer the comedic actor a shot. "I'm not a big five-year plan kind of guy...I don't really look down the road. I kind of take it day by day. And if something comes up, you know, obviously if [Quentin] Tarantino comes a-knocking, I'm gonna do that movie!" he jokes.

At 50 years of age, Jack Black has participated in more than 100 audiovisual productions including a range of TV series, films and even video games. The recognition of his contribution to the field has led to two Golden Globe nominations and a place on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Before we find ourselves getting too nostalgic too soon, let's remind ourselves that we still have a chance to watch Jack Black on the big screen one more before he bids farewell to cinema.

'Jumanji: The Next Level' will hit cinemas on the 13th December.

Other projects on the horizon

Despite the fact that Jack Black has made it clear that he wants to retire from acting, at least for a while, that doesn't mean that he's stepping away from all of his artistic endeavours.

The actor intends to take advantage of his acting hiatus to focus on 'Tenacious D', the comedy rock duo that Black has been involved in ever since 2000 when he joined forces with his bandmate Kyle Glass. "I've got another Tenacious D record that I'd like to make", confesses the actor.

Black, as one half of Tenacious D, won the award for Best Metal Performance at the 57th Grammy Awards.
