For many film lovers out there, 'Home Alone' undoubtedly merits a place of honour on their list of favourite childhood movies. Disney+ knows it, too, and whether they want to create the definitive children's film of the next generation or offer something to those nostalgiac for days gone by, they've got a new reboot of 'Home Alone' in the works and have already found their leading actor.
Archie Yates is the child actor that has been chosen to play the mischievous little boy first portrayed in the 1990s by a young Macaulay Culkin. Yates shot to fame with his role in 'Jojo Rabbit', the latest work by Taika Waititi, and he now joins the cast of the reboot alongside Ellie Kemper, the star of 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt', and Rob Delaney, best known for his role as the charming Peter in 'Deadpool 2'.
The film will be directed by Dan Mazer ('Dirty Grandpa') and the script is penned by Mike Day and Streeter Seidell, two writers for 'Saturday Night Live'. Sources have explained that the project has been labelled 'Home Alone' due to its similarities with the famous saga in a sort of marketing strategy, but once it's gone into production, it appears as though the film will have its own, distinct title.
So what's new?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the characters played by Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney will be a married couple who, in a twist from the original film, will have to face off against a kid who has stolen a priceless heirloom in order to save their home from financial ruin.
Very little is known about the project as of yet, but shooting will commence in Canada at the start of 2020. This will be Archie Yates's first role since his debut in 'Jojo Rabbit', which will be released in the UK on the 3rd January 2020.
