A new revelation is about to shake the DC universe, according to exclusive reports from the US Hollywood reporter: Henry Cavill might have seen his last days as Superman after a heated argument with Warner Brothers, the studios which produced the most recent films starring beloved superheroes such as Batman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. The publication added, however, Warner's assurance that no decisions have currently been made regarding upcoming Superman films, and that the "great relationship and great respect for Henry Cavill (...) continues to remain unchanged." The actor's manager chimed in, trying to calm fans with the following tweet:
Despite these reassurances, the alarm bells are ringing and it is rumored that the clash between the actor and studio means that Warner no longer is willing to work with Cavill in future production. Cavill, who has played the role of Superman in three films in the franchise, came into conflict with Warner Studios after refusing to appear in a cameo for 'Shazam!' According to the actor's representatives, his motives for this refusal were "scheduling conifcts", which, despite being the oldest excuse in the book, is fitting in this case as Cavill has just signed with Netflix to star in the new series of 'The Witcher'.
The actor also caused multiple headaches with his mustache drama, which he was unable to shave due to the demands of the 'Mission Impossible: Fallout' script, yet would not fit in with the DC timeline as, in that universe he was playing a far younger character.
The studio is now concentrating on the potential creation of a Supergirl film, supposedly after the success of 'Wonder Woman' and the probability of Marvel soon creating more female characters, such as 'Captain Marvel'. Thus the next DC film would require Superman to still be a child, complying with the DC comics, thus Cavill would not be able to assume his usual role anyway.
And solo films?
This aforementioned change of course in the studio also affects possible plans for a future standalone Superman film. According to the previously mentioned sources, "Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors." If this little rupture ends in real conflict, then Cavill may be going the likes of Batman actor, Ben Affeck, who will not be returning to his role in the upcoming film directed by Matt Reeves. The source added that DC is aware of certain aspects of the DC universe which don't add up, saying that the studios are slowly trying to move in a new direction.
While these actors are balanced on a thin line, fans can anticipate the release of the new 'Aquaman' film on the 28th December, and 'Wonder Woman 1984', which will have its in November 2019. In addition, Ezra Miller is expected to take on the role of the Flash in his own solo action film.
