Things didn't seem to look in our favour to begin with, and now Sophie Turner has confirmed our suspicions: we'll have to wait until 2019 to see the next season of 'Game of Thrones'!!!
In a few statements, Liam Cunningham left us wondering how long it'd be before we returned to Westeros, and Sophie Turner has since given us a more concrete answer. According to Cunningham, "[The episodes are] definitely going to be bigger and... longer. We're filming right up until the summer. When you think about it, up until last season we'd have six months to do ten episodes, so we're [doing] way more than that for six episodes. So that obviously will translate into longer episodes." For now the only thing we can do is sit waiting patiently.
The bad news broke through Variety, where the actress revealed new details about her character's future.
What will life be like for Sansa without Littlefinger?
"It's going to be tricky for her, because at the end of last season, she felt that she had everything set up. She had her family back together. They were in control of the North again. This season, there's a new threat, and all of a sudden she finds herself somewhat back in the deep end. And without Littlefinger, it's a test for her of whether she can get through it. It's a big challenge for her, without this master manipulator having her back. This season is more a passionate fight for her than a political, manipulative kind of fight", said Turner, who's clearly very proud of her character.
Having grown up playing Sansa Stark, one of the most well-known characters on the small screen, it can't be easy for Turner, and the actress mentioned that, "it's a blessing and a curse". "Working with such incredible scripts and such incredible veteran actors, and working with the best crew. It makes you a bit of a snob, I think", continued the actress. Turner couldn't speak more highly of her fellow cast members, she even went on to say that she puts "them all on such pedestals" and that "the thought of not working with them is almost excruciating" to her. We feel you Sophie - the farewell to GoT will be just as hard for us!
Beyond Westeros
With regard to Turner's post 'Game of Thrones' portfolio, the actress is "really excited. 'Game of Thrones' comes out in 2019. 'Dark Phoenix' is in November. Then I have a couple indie movies coming out. I'm a producer on my next movie, 'Girl Who Fell From the Sky'. So I'm really excited about the future."
And after? "I kind of want to do everything. I feel this sense that everything is over 'Game of Thrones'-wise. I have nothing to lose right now...So I'm going to try my hand at everything". Despite all of that however, Turner is very much conscious of the difficulties that lie beyond GoT. Will she succeed in leaving Sansa behind?
