The cameras for the Joker film have started rolling. Todd Phillips is directing one of the most interesting projects based in the Batman Universe in recent years, mainly by casting an actor with such a reputation as Joaquin Phoenix in the role of Bruce Wayne's arch enemy. And Joaquin Phoenix doesn't do things in halves, as shown in the first official image from the film.

Although fans are still waiting for a first glimpse of Phoenix transformed into the Prince of Crime, with his perverse smile, green hair, white face, and sporting purple as nobody could, the director of the film has chosen to show the "before", titling the image simply as "Arthur", the name of the Joker before he becomes the Joker.

Clearly thinner, with longer hair and a corduroy jacket, Arthur has also been seen in the first clip of the film, which was published by the Daily Mail. In it we see the Phoenix's character in a dirty street, smoking a cigarette and screaming at a clown as he leaves the talent agency, Ha-Ha. Towards the end, Arthur grabs the clown's red nose. Perhaps his first attempt at becoming a comedian did not go so well...

What the new Joker is about

The Joker film will tell us the story of the birth of the most iconic villain from Gotham. Todd Phillips and Scott Silver confirm that the script's exploration of "a man neglected by society is not only a brutal study of the characters, but also a broader premonition". The cast of the film includes Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, and Zazie Beetz, and will show in cinemas from October of next year.
