The final trailer for the highly anticipated second installment in the 'Harry Potter' spinoff trilogy, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them', is finally here. We left off the first film witnessing Grindelwald's arrest in New York, after being detained with the help of zoologist wizard, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), and American auror, Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston). The film ends with Scamander's return to London and Goldstein's reemployment in the Magical Congress of the United States of America.
The new film, 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald', is coming to cinemas this year and, as the title suggests, tells the twisted tale of Voldemort's predecessor in the world of evil wizards, Gellert Grindelwald, who will be played by Johnny Depp. As we already know, it is largely set in Paris, and as well as delving into the evil undertakings of Grindelwald, it will explore at the close relationship between he and Albus Dumbledore, which was first hinted at in 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'. Readers of J.K. Rowling's best selling series were introduced to the character of Grindelwald in the final novel, in which we learn that this dark wizard was once a close friend (and potential lover) of Dumbledore, although their friendship crumbled after a duel between the two men resulted in the death of Dumbledore's sister.
In the first trailer we already saw a young Dumbledore (Jude Law) gazing into the Mirror of Erised only to see Grindelwald's face staring back at him. He confesses that he is "unable to move against" the wizard, thus asking for Newt Scamander's help to defeat him. We also see the wizard as a professor in Hogwarts, teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts to a school-boy Newt. Perhaps in this film we can also anticipate a more detailed investigation into Dumbledore's mysterious and shady past. It has also been revealed that the young wizard and Obscurial, Credence Barebone, still lives, despite the seemingly fatal attacks against him that we witnessed in the previous film. Other exciting appearances include a new character, Leta Lestrange (Zoë Kravitz), who is the mysterious witch whose photograph we saw among Newt's possessions in the first film.
Nagini's revolution
The exclusive new trailer reveals some exciting details about the upcoming film, one of the most exciting being the shot showing a witch, who is referred to as Nagini (the name of Voldemort's pet snake and final horcrux), transforming into a snake. Could this animagus witch actually be the one and same serpent from the original series, or is she simply the namesake? The trailer also features more impressive camera shots and vibrant set design, making us certain that the film will not disappoint.
As well as the launch of the second trailer, yesterday the studios released several new character posters online, with closeups of the protagonists' faces and captions hinting at their whereabouts at the start of the story. Scamander's portrait is captioned "Wanted for Questioning", leaving fans to wonder what for, while Tina Goldstein's is tagged with the caption "On Foreign Assignment", potentially suggesting the reason for the new Parisian setting. Dumbledore's photo caption is similarly mysterious, declaring the wizard to be "Under Surveillance", potentially due to his close connection to the dark wizard at large.
'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald' will be released in cinemas on November 16th, alongside an audiobook, which is coming to Audible.com, and will give fans the chance to go behind the scenes and learn about the creation of this magical film.
