A GENUINE ERROR?

We've already seen the first trailer for 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald' (the film that takes place in the 'Harry Potter' universe). In fact, we even managed to break it down scene by scene to better understand all of what's to come in the sequel to 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'. Despite the excitement over the new trailer, it wasn't the only feeling 'Harry Potter' fans were left with upon watching it, for, the short clip presented some confusing scenes.

 'The Crimes of Grindelwald'

At the beginning of the trailer, we can see various wizards apparating into the grounds of Hogwarts, something that, in theory, according to the 'Harry Potter' books and the author of both sagas, J.K. Rowling, is impossible. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is supposedly protected by a charm that prevents wizards traveling into the school via apparition.

Fans didn't delay in picking up on this error and took to the internet to share it. Some were outraged that such a detail, that remained true throughout the 'Harry Potter' saga, hasn't been given enough attention in the upcoming film.

Amidst the confusion, there were a few fans that reasoned it's possible the charm wasn't in place at the time that 'The Crimes of Grindelwald' is set. The whole 'Fantastic Beasts' saga takes place a good few years before the events of 'Harry Potter', a fact that's only proven by Dumbledore's role as a professor as opposed to headmaster.

What does Rowling have to say?

Despite many considering that the charm wasn't in place during the time, on Pottermore, J.K. Rowling herself confirmed that the charm has always been in place.

However, we're sure that given time, Rowling will offer up a satisfactory response to sooth our confusion. 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald' hits UK cinemas on 16th November.
