Christmas is just around the corner, but in the US they also have Thanksgiving to look forward to in the winter months, and in celebration of this time, like every year, Us television have streamed once again the 1973 special 'A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving'. But this time the internet has flooded with messages in reaction against one particular scene in the story in which the characters sit down at the dinner table to eat.

Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

In this season special, the friends of Charlie Brown decide to celebrate Thanksgiving at home, with Snoopy and Woodstock cooking the turkey. The controversial scene comes in the moment when the friends finally sit down at the table to eat, as highlighted in Comicbook, due to the fact that while four of them sit on one side of the table, on the other side Franklin, the only black friend in the group, sits alone. As if this were not enough already to anger people who turned on their television to watch the nice and innocent cartoon characters, another major detail was pointed out; while all of Charlie Brown's white friends are sat on ordinary wooden chairs, Franklin is the only one to be sat on a garden deck chair.

In light of this situation, Twitter did not delay in flooding itself with messages of discontent, accusing the special of being racist. However, despite the horrifyingly blatant racism being projected to a young audience, it has not stopped this special being streamed every Thanksgiving since its release 45 years ago. We will have to see whether the tradition will continue next year, given the reactions it has provoked.

Is Woodstock a Cannibal?

This incident with Franklin was not the only thing causing the audience of this animated special to take to their keyboards on Twitter. As pointed out by Comicbook, another moment in particular is causing controversy, with Snoopy and the little bird, Woodstock. The problem is that the friends both the turkey at the end of the special, which makes Snoopy's little friend a cannibal, as Twitter users have made no delay in pointing out. Without doubt, the streaming of this year's 'A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving' has uncovered some details which have previously gone overlooked.
