Quentin Tarantino's ninth and upcoming film, set to be his last, is finally underway. Sony Pictures, the filmmakers new home since parting with The Weinstein Company, have confirmed that the production is set to take place in Los Angeles, 1969.
After a whole round of rumours, two actors have finally confirmed their participation in the upcoming film: Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt. The two actors have each worked with Tarantino in the past: DiCaprio as Calvin Candie in 'Django Unchained' and Pitt as Lieutenant Aldo Reine in 'Inglorious Basterds'. Rumours about the actors' ties to the project have been circulating for some time now, and it was thought that DiCaprio initially turned down the opportunity back in January.
In the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter, DiCaprio will play Rick Dalton, an ex-western television star. Brad Pitt will be playing Dalton's stunt-double, Cliff Booth. Tarantino has spent the past five years working on the script which will focus on how both characters failed to fit into Hollywood at the time. How does all of that fit in with the Charles Manson murders? Sharon Tate (a victim of one of Manson's most famous murders) will be incorporated into the story as Rick's neighbour.
Who'll play Sharon Tate and Charles Manson?
Sony have announced that the film is to be called 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood', and that it will hit cinemas on 9th August 2019 (very close to the 50th anniversary Manson's murders on 19th August). There are still a lot of roles waiting to be filled, such as those of Sharon Tate and Charles Manson. Stars like Margot Robbie, Tom Cruise, Al Pacino, Jennifer Lawrence and Samuel L. Jackson have all been linked to the project, but we've not heard anything official as of yet.
