According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christina Hodson, who's working on the 'Transformers' spin-off 'Bumblebee', will now be taking on 'Batgirl'. Hodson is set to write the script, following on from Joss Whedon, who abandoned the project earlier this year.

 the writer

The 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' creator signed on to the film just last year, but parted ways with the project this February after a lack of creative flow. Reactions to Whedon's departure were mixed, for some fans were concerned that a film about a female superhero would be directed by a male, while others were sad to see the established talent go.

Hodson will be picking up the script where Whedon left off, and, if her previous experience is anything to go by, it's in good hands. Most recently, Hodson wrote the script for 'Unforgettable' which starred Rosario Dawson and Katherine Heigl).

Batgirl in the past

Although Batgirl is perhaps most commonly known as Barbara Gordon, daughter to Gotham police commissioner, James Gordon, the character went by Betty Kane in 1961. In 1967, Batgirl made an appearance in the 'Batman' TV series and was played by Yvonne Craig. The character received a significant makeover in an attempt to attract a more female audience.

Batgirl's last on-screen performance was way back in the 1997 film 'Batman & Robin', directed by Joel Schumacher. Actress, Alicia Silverstone played the DC super-heroine and she most recently made an appearance in Steven Spielberg's 'Ready Player One'.
