In an attempt to replicate the success that he achieved with 'Avatar', James Cameron is ready to bring out the big guns. 'Avatar' remains the highest grossing film in history, ahead of another of Cameron's works, 'Titanic'. So it makes sense that the director reached out to Kate Winslet in order to try and replicate those unreachable figures. If the two working together again isn't enough to get you into the cinema for 'Avatar 2', then perhaps you'll be more enticed by Winslet's decorated career, which includes films such as, 'Sense and Sensibility' and 'The Reader'.

Kate Winslet working on the sequel comes as less of a surprise than last week's news which revealed unknown, young talents had been signed on to the film - not exactly the best direction to tread when you're trying to attract the masses.

On his part, Cameron admitted to Deadline, how he has spent years trying to work with his muse once more. "Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career." The director also added, "I can't wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life." Apart from the name, not much is known about Winslet's character, one thing for certain however, is that the actress has the pull to lure in viewers who might not have been interested in 'Avatar' otherwise.

Winslet's motives

Two decades have passed since the success of 'Titanic' featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, a film which the latter was desperate to wrap up. In an interview with the Los Angeles times, (read it here), the actress mentioned, "I would only work for Jim Cameron again for a lot of money". The director responded that she was, "just letting off steam", however, after having shot most of the film in a swimming pool, we think at the time at least, Winslet's words were very much truthful. Winslet later clarified her words had been misinterpreted.

In terms of the actress' work on 'Avatar 2', some will choose to believe she has taken on the project because she is actually interested in the film, while others might think differently given her previous comments, and the fact that James Cameron is trying to produce one of the most successful sagas. Motives aside, either way it is a win-win situation for both actress and film.
