The latest season of 'American Horror Story' only ended this week, on 14th November, but Ryan Murphy hasn't left his fans empty handed. During the final episode of 'Cult', FX premiered the trailer for the second season of 'American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace'. The new season will investigate one of the most curious assassinations of our time, and we're finally able to catch a glimpse of it, following months of speculation.

The season will differ greatly from that of the first. We wave farewell to the courtroom in exchange for an investigation into the motives behind the murder of Gianni Versace. According to the trailer, they'll be plenty of sex (as well as blood), but what's caught our attention is Penelope Cruz's portrayal of a mourning Donatella Versace. With a false Italian accent, and a voice very similar to that of the designer, Cruz states, "I will not allow that man, that nobody to kill my brother twice". Emmy worthy? What do you think?

There are a few scenes that show the designer's death, but majority of the trailer is dedicated to Andrew Cunanan, and what lead him to carry out the crime. The spotlight is very much on Darren Criss, who plays the murderer and has a lot of screen time this season. As the actor nears the steps to Versace's mansion, he's heard saying "you're not better than me, we're the same. The only difference is that you got lucky".

Will it do as well as the first season?

The first season of 'American Crime Story' focused on O.J. Simpson and one of the most controversial cases in American history. The storyline surprised both the critics and the public, by becoming one of the most successful series of the season, winning various Emmys and Golden Globes. In the follow up, Ryan Murphy looks to replicate his success with a case that not only would change Versace (the company) forever, but one that still remains unsolved.

Édgar Ramírez and Ricky Martin join Cruz and Criss to complete the cast, portraying Gianni Versace and his lover, Antonio D'Amico. The new season will air on FX in the US on 17th January 2018.
