The politics of Instagram surrounding the exposure of women's nipples and the censoring of certain photographs of the female form have been stirring up controversy and debate across social media for a long while, and several actresses have been affected by the site's regulations. One such woman was Amber Heard, who has now decided to challenge the platform's policies directly.
Last month, the 'Aquaman' actress and professional model posted a photo from a magazine shoot in which she appeared dressed in an unbuttoned jacket with no bra beneath, leaving one of her nipples visible in the picture. The snapshot got several fans worked up and received a large amount of criticism, as a result of which Instagram chose to take down the post (though the image is still available on Twitter, where the actress also posted the photo).

To call attention to the different regulations placed upon men and women regarding the censoring of nipples, Heard has now posted a very similar image of her DC co-star, Jason Momoa. The photograph is the same one that she had uploaded before Instagram chose to delete it, but the body and face has been edited to replace Heard with Momoa. According to the social media site's rulebook, despite the fact that it's the same photo and, in both cases, a nipple is visible, one is acceptable and the other is not.
Heard captioned the past with a message appealing directly to Instagram: "In honor of IG's rigorous and equitable Community Guidelines against showing the female nipple...and since mine enjoyed the brief privilege that's afforded to my male counterparts...I decided to pay homage by replacing it with a picture that did meet IG's strict nudity guidelines and such careful gender policies". Heard's post has brought to light the double standards of the company.
'Aquaman 2'
Both Amber Heard and Jason Momoa will return to the big screen in the eagerly awaited 'Aquaman 2'. Though the film has not yet commenced shooting, its predicted release date is currently the 16th December 2022. However, Momoa has confirmed that the film's premiere and production will be delayed due to his participation in environmental protests in his native Hawaii. The first instalment focusing on the DC superhero, directed by James Wan, was one of the big hits for the comic company, grossing over one billion dollars at the box office. Such success meant that the sequel was confirmed shortly after the first film's premiere, with David Johnson, who co-wrote the first instalment, as screenwriter.
