When Texas takes a stance, they do it in a big way.
On June 2 in the United States is released 'Wonder Woman' and the Alamo Drafthouse, based in Austin (Texas), has already announced that they wont allow men in.
The character of Wonder Woman, an Amazon who leaves her paradise island to fight in World War I, is a pop icon of feminist claims and her first solo film will be the first starring in a superheroine in recent superhero movies. Previously we briefly saw the character, played by model and actress Gal Gadot, under the direction of Zack Snyder in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice', and will return in the future with 'Justice League'; But this time 'Wonder Woman' will be the first superhero movie directed by a woman: Patty Jenkins ('Monster'). That superhero movies can be, at last, directed by a woman is an achievement that we should all celebrate.
And in Texas they celebrate it as they know best. The Alamo Drafthouse cinema chain is known for its experimental marketing campaigns and its projections events: from movies accompanied by food and drinks to the films where you can recite the film. With its latest initiative and under the motto "No boys allowed", the film embraces the demands and achievements that accompany the premiere of 'Wonder Woman'.
They have announced it, with prudence and coherence, in its web page. There they explain how the initiative is not only directed towards the gallery and just as the film will be directed by a woman, the projection will be carried out by women. "Apologies, gentlemen, but we are embracing our girl power by saying 'no men' for a special night at the Alamo Ritz, and when we say, 'Only women (and people who identify as women)', we mean it. Who work in this projection team, the staff, the projectionist, the culinary team, will be women. "
If you were there, would you consolidate your girl power, grab your golden bow and bracelet, and you would see 'Wonder Woman'?
The Best of DC
According to early reviews, the best film in the new DC Universe would not be directed by Zack Snyder, the testeronic director of '300' and 'Batman v. Superman', but the first film about a superheroine directed by a woman. 'Wonder Woman' has been described as 'fantastic', 'emotional', 'fun', 'romantic' and 'entertaining', have praised the performance of their protagonist, Gal Gadot, and Chris Pine.
In the UK we can check for ourselves from June 1st.
