The biggest awards ceremony in the world of film took place on Sunday 26th February in the form of the Oscars. The 89th Academy Awards didn't disappoint as Hollywood stars flocked in masses to the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
The big favourite going into the evening was 'La La Land' and Damien Chazelle's film didn't disappoint as it walked away with 6 awards. It was originally seven awards for the musical featuring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as it was announced that it had won 'Best Picture' award. However, in a chaotic climax to the ceremony, 'La La Land' was mistakenly awarded the top prize. Within minutes of of the cast gathering on stage to receive the coveted trophy, it was suddenly announced that there had been a mistake as 'La La Land' producer, Jordan Horowitz declared the real winner was to be 'Moonlight'. A moment which shocked not only the audience but viewers around the world, as it was revealed that Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty had been given the wrong envelope which contained the the award for best actress which was won by Emma Stone.
Despite this mistake, it was an evening full of magic and celebration which saw Moonlight' walk away with 3 awards, 'Manchester by the Sea' and 'Hacksaw Ridge' both receiving 2 awards and the likes of 'Arrival', 'Fences' and 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' winning one apiece.
