The year 2016 has given so much in both cinema and television. In general, despite having some rather unnecessary fictions and movies, it has been an interesting and fun year. And now, it is time to take stock and remember the great moments that we've had this 2016.
In this case, in Movie'n'co we decided to remember some of the great characters of fiction with which we have enjoyed. The high average level that is currently in terms of series is concerned has caused us to see enough good characters that could perfectly enter the list. Big fictions such as 'Game of Thrones' or 'Vikings' every season delight us with great characters, while other pleasant surprises such as 'Stranger Things' or 'Westworld' have also done the same.
In cinema, on the other hand, it has not been such a remarkable year. Among all the new releases, there have been good, regular and bad films, like every year. However, even in the worst films there have been characters that for one reason or another have left their mark. Heroes, new superheroes such as Black Panther or Tom Holland's revamped Spider-Man, villains, women, men, boys, girls and even wizards. There have been characters of all kinds and for all tastes and these are the 12 that we have chosen. What have been your favorites?
12 Pacino ('The Ministry of Time')
Hugo Silva came to 'The Ministry of Time' to temporarily replace the character of Rodolfo Sancho, Julian, but his Pacino connected so well with the rest of the characters that the audience did not hesitate to ask for continuity for the rest of the season. A policeman of the eighties who conquered the hearts of all the ministries since his first appearance in the second chapter. His connection with Amelia and the great comic duo he formed with Alonso provoked what seemed impossible: that the quality of the series of the Olivares brothers climbed one step further. A character with certain chirping airs, ironic, funny, but above all a man of action. Special mention for a Hugo Silva in which not many trusted, but who has managed to give his touch to Pacino to become the best character of the second season of 'The Ministry of Time' and one of the best of the year.
11 Pablo Escobar ('Narcos')
Wagner Moura, a Brazilian, was the actor chosen by Netflix to play the Colombian Pablo Escobar, one of the most terrifying drug traffickers in history. A controversial and strange choice that could have ruined the whole series, but that has ended up being decisive for 'Narcos' to have been so successful. Already in the first season, Moura proved to be a magnificent Escobar. A guy with two faces; One familiar, generous and kind and one terrifying and violent. The actor's Brazilian accent was the only one that could be put to his magnificent performance. In the second one has seen a Escobar as fearsome as ever, but with a more Colombian and less Brazilian accent than in the previous season. That effort on the part of Moura, added to his already hypnotizing Pablo Emilio Escobar Gabiria have made it deserve to have a gap in this list.
10 Newt Scamander ('Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them')
'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' has been undoubtedly one of the great releases of this 2016. The spin off of 'Harry Potter' was facing the difficult mission to live up to one of the best sagas in history Of the cinema, and the truth is that he has fulfilled with note. For that to have been possible has been key the good role of the Oscar-winning Eddie Redmayne, who as Newt Scamander has proved to be the protagonist of this new film saga. Redmayne played a very timid, eccentric, and sometimes antisocial Scamander, but who knew how to connect with the audience thanks to that strange character and tenderness with all magical creatures. A character with hook and margin to grow throughout the saga that became the favorite of many fans of the magical world created by J.K. Rowling and one of the best of 2016.
9 Dustin ('Stranger Things')
Eleven was not the only character in 'Stranger Things' who hooked the public. Dustin, the character played by the great Gaten Matarazzo, was behind Eleven on the awesomeness scale, but he was certainly up there. Matarazzo did an impressive job and from a supporting role within the lead cast, he stole all the scenes in which he appeared. Ingenious, funny and touching, Dustin became the favorite character of many even above that of Eleven. One more success of 'Stranger Things' and the Duffers.
8 Clarke ('The 100')
'The 100' is undoubtedly one of the most underrated series of the current television grid. Since its debut, being a fiction starring young people caused the most skeptical adult audience not even deign to give it a chance, thus losing one of the most risky products of the moment. One of the big culprits that 'The 100' has become such a special series has been Eliza Taylor-Cotter and her character, Clarke Griffin. The evolution of Clarke has been the most marked of the series, arriving at its maximum apogee in the third and last season. In it we saw a Clarke who is already undoubtedly one of the best female characters on television these days. In just three seasons she has gone from being a lost and immature girl to a strong, complex, struggling woman committed to her cause. The fourth season will arrive in 2017 and everything seems to indicate that Clarke will again live up to it.
7 Harley Quinn ('Suicide Squad')
Harley Quinn was until not too many months a little known personage for the great public. For many it was, so to speak, the simple bride of the Joker. But then came Warner, David Ayer and especially Margot Robbie to put Harley on the front page. 'Suicide Squad' did not convince criticism and brought about a great division between those who had loved it and those who had hated it. But what is indisputable is the great work Margot Robbie did as Harley Quinn. The actress turned the iconic DC villain into one of the most famous characters of the year. She and Will Smith's Deadshot were the great attractions of Yesterday's film. Despite complaints from some by how sexualized Harley was, Robbie managed to convey everything that she is in the comics. The Australian played a totally unbalanced, violent, sarcastic, disturbed and sexual villain who hooked the audience to become a mass phenomenon and one of the great characters of this 2016.
6 Eleven ('Stranger Things')
In a fairly choral cast as was 'Stranger Things', Eleven, the character played by Millie Bobby Brown, rose above the rest. Her introverted character, her X-Men-like powers and the mystery surrounding her made her such an enigmatic and interesting young woman. Brown was able to adapt perfectly to the character and, with little dialogue, managed to transmit feelings as disparate as tenderness, sadness, fear or joy in each and every one of his scenes. If 'Stranger Things' has become one of the series of the year, the impact of Eleven would not have been any less. The small 'mutant' has been a social phenomenon and has been one of the best characters of 2016.
5 Sansa Stark ('Game of Thrones')
The sixth season of 'Game of Thrones', besides leaving us several of the best chapters of the history of the series, also left us a great discovery: the new Dark Sansa. The evolution of the character played by Sophie Turner from the first season has been surely the most marked of the series of HBO. Few characters have gone through so many things like Sansa. And is that a fleeting engagement with Joffrey and a marriage to Ramsay would change anyone. Nothing is left of that capricious, innocent and dreamy girl of the first season. In the sixth we have seen a strong woman, self-confident and sometimes even cruel. Her have been some of the best scenes of the season and for some she and only she would have to have been "The Queen in the North". The good characters abound in Westeros, but this new Sansa well deserves to be considered the best of the sixth season.
4 Stephen Strange ('Doctor Strange')
'Doctor Strange' has been one of the great releases of the year. The film directed by Scott Derickson from Phase 3 of the Marvel Film Universe was a visual spectacle for the viewer and also introduced us to what appears to be the next Tony Stark of MCU, Dr. Stephen Strange. Benedict Cumberbatch, like Robert Downey Jr with Iron Man, seems to have been born to play this prestigious former surgeon and supreme sorcerer. Charismatic enough to say enough, sarcastic, funny in his own way and rather overbearing, Dr. Strange happens to be by own merits one of the best characters of 2016 and Marvel Studios.
3 The Punisher ('Daredevil')
Following the adaptations of the film character, Netflix decided to recover an anti-hero from Marvel for the second season of 'Daredevil' in a risky decision. Neither Dolph Lundgren first, nor Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson later, met the general public as the Punisher. Netflix chose Jon Bernthal for the role, and the truth is that after seeing him in 'Daredevil', the actor seems to have been born to play The Punisher. A tough guy, very tough, tormented by his past and with a unique ability to kill have been the character's identity in the fiction starring Charlie Cox. Bernthal has been able to adapt perfectly to the character to become the best of the second season. His impact was such that Netflix did not hesitate to give his own solo series, which came in 2017. If from a secondary role has managed to be one of the great characters of the year, it is not unreasonable to think that as a protagonist could become one of the best adaptations of Marvel Comics in both cinema and television.
2 Negan ('The Walking Dead')
Negan has only recently appeared in 'The Walking Dead', but that has been enough to become the great villain of 2016 and one of the best characters of the year. A violent, charismatic, sarcastic, unpredictable, shameless psychopath wonderfully played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Negan has been like a breath of fresh air for the AMC series. All his appearances have long been the best so far this season. He and his inseparable companion of fatigues Lucille, were the great protagonists of one of the most violent and crude episodes of the history of the television. Its the showdown with Rick which was one of the more interesting parts of the series.
1 Deadpool ('Deadpool')
The 'merc with a mouth' could not be left from this list after starring in one of the best superhero movies of the year. 'Deadpool' was a resounding success both at the box office and at the critical level. His black humor, the magnificent marketing campaign, his casual tone and Deadpool himself were the main ingredients to understand this success. Ryan Reynolds managed to redeem himself after the stumble of 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' (and what a stumbling block) and transported perfectly to the Masquerade of the vignettes to make an outstanding performance. Charismatic, sarcastic, violent and very clownish, the Deadpool of Reynolds who seems to have been born for that role, went from being a great stranger to being one of the most recognized superheroes of the moment. Fox finally seems to have found their hen that lays the golden eggs.
