Throughout the 9 seasons of 'Modern Family', we've been able to see how the cast have changed over the years. Since the shows beginning back in 2009, Manny Delgado (Rico Rodriguez), Haley Dunphy (Sarah Hyland) have each had growth spurts, whilst Luke Dunphy (Nolan Gould), Alex Dunphy (Ariel Winter) and Lily Tucker- Pritchett (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) have literally grown up in front of the cameras.
One of the most noticeable changes to the cast belongs to Ariel Winter. No longer the shy child she once was, Ariel, who shares her name with 'The Little Mermaid', has undergone one hell of a glow-up. In recent years, Winter has become the centre of attention for many media outlets with specific focus on her private life and explosive curves.
The actress has also come under criticism for supposedly undergoing breast reduction surgery or her provocative choice of dress. One outlet even went as far as to suggest Winter only has herself to blame for the hate (given her like for long necklines). The last accusation was clearly too much for the actress, who chose to respond via Twitter by eluding to the Time's Up movement which focuses on empowering women in Hollywood.
In terms of Winter's show, 'Modern Family', it appears as though the end is a lot closer than we think. Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, showrunners and co-creators of the show have already revealed that their plans for the upcoming 10th and final season are set in stone. They plan on ending the show with a high, something important to them and the many fans of the series.
10 facts
1 Taekwondo
Don't let her sweet face fool you, because Ariel Winter is not someone to be messed with: She's a regular gym goer (as is her boyfriend, 10 years her senior), at least according to her social media. Winter sticks to a routine that involves weightlifting, muscle toning and a lot of cardio all of which is overseen by her Coach Gunnar Peterson (he also trains the Kardashians). The actress has a purple belt in Korean martial art, Taekwondo.
2 Her band
Winter loves music, as well as going to concerts and music festivals, much like California's Coachella. The actress is also part of her own music group with her best friend and their band is called 'Wicked Sweet'. The irony won't be lost on 'Modern Family' fans for Winter's character, Alex Dunphy also has a musical talent and a pretty impressive voice.
3 Cyberbullying
Given her often daring choice of dress and how she's practically grown up on camera, it'd be hard to guess that Winter once suffered from low-self esteem. Yet she used to, and she's had to put up with a lot of online harassment. Whether it's negative opinions over her weight, her chest or her curves, you name it, Ariel's borne the brunt of it. Nowadays, the actress is used to the hate, but looks more sure of herself than ever.
4 Her mother
Winter has spoken about the difficult relationship she shares with her mother a number of times. But what you might not have known is just how toxic the situation was, apparently Winter's mother would use both physical and psychological abuse to excessively control her life. Ariel claims her mother even tried to control who she spent her time with in the early years of her career. Eventually, in 2012 Winter took the brave decision to ask for a change in legal guardianship. Since then, she has been under the care of her older sister, who is also an actress.
5 Voiceovers
On top of her acting career on the small screen, Winter has worked on animated films, cartoon series and video-games. She's voiced Gretchen from 'Phineas and Ferb' and SmurfLily in 'Smurfs: The Lost Village'.
6 Tattoos
Ariel loves tattoos, and she may even have up to 11. The tattoos include the head of a tiger on her back, the initials of her nieces and nephews on her ribcage and some roman symbols on her arm. She has a phrase on her hip reading, "love risks everything and asks for nothing", whilst an ace of spades sits on her wrist - an ode to her maternal grandmother and one of the actresses favourite tattoos.
7 Twitter
These days, whoever has an opinion has Twitter, and Ariel Winter is no exception. In fact, the actress is regularly tweeting about controversial matters, offering her opinion to her many followers. Sexism, homophobia, bullying and politics have all caught the actress' attention, and the current US President, Donald Trump, has even been subject to her posts.
You're right. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. And I guess if this is what I should expect, then he should expect my pretty little foot in my high heel kicking him right between his legs. My body is mine no matter what I wear. Women aren't objects to be fondled. Period.

8 An early start to her career
Winter made her debut on TV at just 4 years old in ad for cakes. Her debut came shortly before she gained small roles in American TV series like 'Bones' and 'Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang'. Ariel claims her mother pretty much forced her into acting and even went as far as having her daughter's hair dyed and asking her to dress as though she was a bit older than her actual age.
9 A huge 'Twilight' and 'SNL' fan
Winter tunes into 'Saturday Night Live' every week and has expressed an interest in wanting to present one day. The actress is a huge 'Twilight' fan, has seen all the films and would love to meet actor Robert Pattinson.
10 University
Despite her popularity, Ariel knows fame won't last forever. So, in order to expand her horizons, the actress dreams of going to university one day to study for a political science degree. It's something Winter has wanted to do since she was a child and back in 2016 she was accepted on a course at UCLA.
