The British film director, Lynne Ramsay, directed this thriller based on the short novel by Jonathan Ames. This movie tells the story of Joe (Joaquin Phoenix) a tormented and melancholic war veteran that has lost everything in and so spends his time helping women and girls by rescuing them from the various white slave trades. One day, Joe gets a phone call from a politician who informs to him that his own daughter, Nina, has been kidnapped. Following that phone call, Joe traces her to a Manhattan whorehouse, and from there on out, chaos ensues. The peaceful Joe who doesn't have any kind of hope in his life, turns into a violent guy who's full of thirst for revenge, and dedicated to ending the job he's started.
