In 1979, a group of young filmmakers went to a remote farm in rural Texas to shoot an adult film. When the owners of the place, a lonely elderly couple, discover their intentions, they will be forced to fight desperately for their lives.

Ti West directs and signs the script of the film. The cast includes the actors Jenna Ortega, Brittany Snow, Martin Henderson, Kid Cudi and Mia Goth.

American digital magazine Variety praises the film in its film review saying that " 'X' is no 'Chain Saw'. What is? Nothing comes close (except for maybe Takashi Miike?s 'Audition', the most disturbing horror film since). But 'X' is a wily and entertaining slow-motion ride of terror that earns its shocks, along with its singular quease factor, which relates to the fact that the demons here are ancient specimens of humanity who actually have a touch of?humanity. West, as a filmmaker, reverses tropes in a way that speaks to the era that was coming. The men, for once, are the first to get killed off, and where movie slashers tend to represent the suppression of female sexuality, ?X? is a kind of feminist horror film in which the principal demon is a woman who wants to embrace sexuality. The world just won?t let her. But that doesn?t mean she?s not evil, or that we don?t want to see her evil crushed".
