Based on Richard Ford's novel of the same name, the film tells the story of Joe Brinson, who moves with his family to Great Falls, Montana, at age sixteen with the goal of finding a better life. However, Joe will be forced to mature more quickly to try to understand a series of hard events that happen during the three days in which the story takes place. The boy will see how little by little his parents' marriage breaks up after his mother meets another man. The actor Paul Dano ('Little Miss Sunshine') performs his first opera with a screenplay adapted by himself and starring Jake Gyllenhaal ('Brokeback Mountain'), Carey Mulligan ('An Education') and Ed Oxenbould (Better watch out' and 'The visit').
