Plot

'Wicked' is the first of the two parts that adapt the Winnie Holzman's musical to a movie. It presents the origin of the Witch of the West, antagonist of 'The Wizard of Oz', and the Good Witch of the South. Set years before Dorothy's arrival, the film introduces Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), a witch who is constantly repressed for her greenish skin tone.

During her studies at the University of Shiz, the future villain meets Glinda (Ariana Grande), who is her opposite: she is popular and people likes her. Despite their prejudices, both students establish a friendship that will lead them to deeply understand each other's problems and comprehend their situation. However, their inevitable future in 'The Wizard of Oz' will inevitably lead them to different paths.

The film is directed by Jon M. Chu, a filmmaker who has previously directed musicals such as 'In the Heigths'. The script is written by Winnie Holzman, Dana Fox and Gregory Maguire, and names like Jonathan Bailey, Marissa Bode, Ethan Slater or Jeff Goldblum complete the cast. Filmed at the same time by using real sets and decorations, the 'Wicked' sequel will hit theaters in 2025' Christmas.
