Where Is Anne Frank?

Kitty, the imaginary friend whom Anne Frank wrote in her famous Diary, comes to life in today?s Amsterdam. Having no idea it?s been 75 years, Kitty is sure that if she?s still alive, then Anne must live, too.

The film focuses on her search for contemporary Europe to find her dear friend. Armed with the work she dedicated to her and with the help of her friend Peter, who runs a secret shelter for undocumented immigrants, Kitty follows in Anne?s footsteps, from the annex to her tragic end in the Holocaust. Puzzled after realizing that our world is broken, and discovering the injustices suffered by refugee children, Kitty wants to fulfill Anne?s mission.

Following his Oscar-nominated adaptation of 'The Diary of Anne Frank' in the form of a graphic novel, Ari Folman has created a new vision of history in animated film format. "Performing the scene where the Frank family arrives at the Auschwitz concentration camp was the most difficult task of the entire film. How can we show children this particular moment? Animation, as a genre, offers us a wide range of options. But we had to choose wisely between them. At the end I found numerous parallels between the extermination sites of the Nazis in World War II and the underworld of Greek mythology. Anne was obsessed with Greek mythology," says Folman.
