Welcome to Siegheilkirchen

In the small town of Siegheilkirchen in Austria in the 60s, old traditions continue to rule and no outsider is welcome. Mariolina arrives there with her gypsy settlement and falls in love with a teenage Rotzbub with her self-confidence. The tavern keeper's son is shy and inexperienced and fails time and time again in her attempts to get close to her, coping with her adolescence by cultivating her great talent for drawing. The gulls in the Rotzbub gang take advantage of this gift to create a shady business with him: selling erotic cartoons of the butcher, another wench that half the town secretly sighs for.

Meanwhile the inhabitants of Siegheilkirchen plan a final solution to end the gypsies and the settlement of Mariolina is in danger. Helped by his friends, Rotzbub will turn events around. 'Brat Boy' is based on the life of the Austrian cartoonist Manfred Deix.

Manfred Deix (Austria, 1949-2016) was a graphic artist and political cartoonist, also a musician and writer. Deix was fiercely critical of racism, xenophobia, hypocrisy, the church, and politicians. Manfred Deix died at the age of 67, leaving Marietta a widow, whom he met at the age of 14. The film is written by Martin Ambrosch and directed by Santiago Lopez Jover and Marcus H. Rosenmüller.
