We Come as Friends

The filmmaker Hubert Sauper embarks in a journey through a divided Sudan trapped between a south anxious to gain it's independence and a north controlled by President Omar al-Bashir. So the largest country in Africa survives anchored in the past and rushing to an uncertain future clouded by a conflict that arises from the struggle for land and resources. The artist who directed 'Darwin's Nightmare' invites us to travel with him in a small plane bound for he thoughts and dreams of the people of this country with too many interests. Complex, deep and with unexpected touches of humor, the film explores the common ground ironically shared by Chinese oil workers, UN peacekeepers, Sudanese warlords, and American evangelists.
